On Sunday, the first shipment of wheat imported from Russia by the private sector arrived at the Karachi port.
According to sources, the private sector would import wheat from Russia at a cost of $279 per metric tonne, while the ex-mill price of sugar is expected to fall to Rs 92 per kg following the arrival of Russian wheat.
Earlier this month, a Russian ship carrying 50,000 tonnes of wheat arrived at Gwadar Port. After Pakistan had a wheat shortfall and a flour crisis, the government began importing wheat from Russia.
Wheat flour prices reached an all-time high earlier this month as rates for 10- and 20-kilogram flour bags increased by Rs50 and Rs20, respectively.
