In view of the prevailing Coronavirus situation in the country, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has decided not to issue new banknotes on Eid-ul-Fitr this year as well.
According to a statement issued by the central bank, “like last year, the SBP will not issue new banknotes on the occasion of Eid due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”
Each year, SBP issues new banknotes on the occasion of Eid so people can spend them during Eid festivities.
However, this year, the government has requested the citizens not to celebrate Eid with traditional fervor as part of its ‘Stay Home Stay Safe Strategy’ for mobility control during Eid-ul-Fitr holidays amid a deadly third wave of Coronavirus.
