The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday issued directives to the police to produce the plaintiff before it regarding a petition seeking the annulment of the 2024 elections.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarrat Hilali, presided over the case. The plea was filed by a petitioner named Ali Khan, seeking to invalidate the general elections held on February 8.
During the proceedings, the plaintiff’s lawyer expressed his client’s desire to withdraw the plea. However, the bench sternly responded, stating that such actions cannot be taken lightly by the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Isa emphasized the importance of the matter and insisted on the presence of the petitioner in court.
“Bringing the petitioner before the court is imperative. We will proceed with the hearing of the petition,” Justice Isa remarked firmly.
The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which it regards matters related to the electoral process, emphasizing the need for proper legal procedures to be followed.
