The caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, declared on Friday that educational institutions will be closed on Saturday throughout the province. The decision was made during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on anti-smog, where the chief minister emphasized the need for measures to combat smog.
Mohsin Naqvi, while presiding over the meeting, conveyed that schools would remain shut on Saturday, but markets, businesses, restaurants, and eateries would continue their operations over the weekend. He instructed a rigorous crackdown on vehicles emitting smoke to mitigate smog levels, highlighting the government’s commitment to maintaining a low Air Quality Index (AQI).
The meeting, attended by various provincial ministers and officials, aimed to address the challenges posed by smog in the region. Winter vacations were also announced for schools and colleges in Punjab, with Mohsin Naqvi specifying that they would be in effect from December 18 to January 1.
During the gathering, the caretaker chief minister emphasized the improved air quality in the province and announced that no additional restrictions would be imposed in the coming week. The decision to close educational institutions and implement measures against smog reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to address environmental concerns and prioritize public health.
