Senator Mushtaq hopes Aafia Siddiqui’s sooner return to Pakistan

“Seeing the struggle, it appears Aafia Siddiqui will soon return home,” Senator Mushtaq remarked during a press conference here.

“There will be no difficulty in her return; only some hard work is required,” he explained.

Clive Safford Smith, a well-known human rights attorney and lawyer in the Dr. Aafia Siddiqui case, told the media that the US government had provided the court with a classified document. “The letter suggests how Aafia Siddiqui can be returned home,” he explained.

“The court was not informed about Aafia Siddiqqui’s mental and physical torture,” the lawyer claimed. “She was subjected to more cruelty than other prisoners,” the defence attorney stated.

“If the torture she was subjected to became public, she would not have been sentenced,” he stated.

He stated that a US visa had been provided to Dr Fowzia Siddiqui, Aafia Siddiqui’s sister and that she must now travel to the US. “During her visit to her sister, Aafia Siddiqui will be accompanied by her lawyer, Clive Safford Smith.”

According to the council, the Prime Minister has told Fowzia Siddiqui that her sister will be returned to the country. “Hopefully, the matter will be resolved soon,” he stated.

In an earlier press conference in Lahore, Aafia Siddiqui’s lawyer stated that further efforts are needed within Pakistan to seek Dr. Siddiqui’s release since obstacles to her return appear to be originating in Pakistan.

He claimed that the Aafia case is the worst example of human rights violations and that her emotional pain is worse than that of Guantanamo detainees.
