Shaheen Afridi: “I Play for Pakistan, Not for Captaincy”. Fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi recently emphasized his commitment to playing for Pakistan rather than seeking captaincy. Addressing the media during the Shahid Afridi Foundation Under-16 Cricket Tournament final in Karachi, Afridi expressed his dedication to the sport and his country.
“Red ball cricket is the real cricket, which enhances skills,” Afridi remarked. “My job is to play cricket, and I don’t pay attention to people’s comments.” He underscored the importance of focusing on his performance and ignoring negative remarks from detractors. “Negative-minded people may come, but I focus on my performance. I will play with pride for my country and won’t pay any attention to negative things.”
Afridi also highlighted the significance of team unity, stressing that the players must be close-knit and supportive of one another. “The eleven players in the team should be good friends. We play for the same country and team, so we should be united. I have been well-trained and taught to fight for the team,” he stated.
On his availability for the upcoming matches, Afridi confirmed, “I am not resting; I am available for selection. I play cricket for Pakistan, not for captaincy. For me, Pakistan comes first, then the team, and then myself.” His remarks reflect a strong sense of national pride and a commitment to contributing to the team’s success, regardless of the role he plays.
