Shehbaz Sharif is set to take the oath of the Prime Minister’s office today at the President’s House in Islamabad. Elected as the country’s 24th prime minister, Shehbaz is returning to the coveted position after his previous 16-month tenure from April 2022 to August 2023.
His victory in the Parliament’s lower house was anticipated, securing 201 votes against his opponent, Omar Ayub Khan, who received 92 votes. Shehbaz’s broad support from seven parties, including the PPP, MQM-P, PML-Q, BAP, PML-Z, IPP, and NP, contributed to his success.
Caretaker PM Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will welcome the new premier at the Prime Minister’s House, as preparations, including a guard of honour, are underway for the ceremony.
