Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad announced that Pakistan will introduce e-passports by June and the services of a German company have been acquired for this reason.
Minister Sheikh Rashid, while speaking to reporters after visiting the FIA’s zonal office, said it was a significant change that would help overcome all of the existing system’s obstacles for passport seekers.
While responding to the question he said, “I assure you that this (e-passport) service will be available by June (2021). There will be no more lawsuits or year-long waits for small work after that. This project has been contracted to a German firm, which will be a huge relief for everyone looking for quick service from the passport office.”
An e-passport is a highly secure travel document with a microchip embedded in it that contains biometric data about the holder.
