According to a notification posted on Thursday, the Sindh government has declared a public holiday in honor of the “martyrdom anniversary” of former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
According to a statement, “The Government of Sindh declares April 4, 2023 (Tuesday) as a Public Holiday on the occasion of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s (Ex-Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan) 44th Martyrdom Anniversary, throughout the Province of Sindh.”
All offices, autonomous, semi-autonomous entities, corporations, and local councils that are under the administrative jurisdiction of the provincial government of Sindh would stay closed, with the exception of necessary services, in accordance with the notification.
Bhutto, who was born on January 5th, 1928, was an accomplished politician who, on November 30th, 1967, founded the Pakistan People’s Party, which is presently run by his maternal grandson, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
Bhutto was hanged after a controversial trial on April 4, 1979, almost two years after General Ziaul Haq imposed martial law and overthrew his government. His death was classified as “judicial murder” by PPP.
