The Sindh Education Department has prohibited the inclusion of undesirable material in the O-level syllabus.
According to Rafia Javed, Additional Director of Sindh Education Department, the province has prohibited schools from teaching students an undesirable chapter of “Same Sex Family” in the O-level Sociology book.
Furthermore, the Sindh education department has prohibited the chapter “History and Culture of Pakistan” from being included in the Pakistan Studies book for O-level students.
In her statement, Rafia Javed stated that such chapters are against Pakistani culture and urged private institutions to remove them from textbooks.
Previously, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Rana Tanveer Hussain promised the Senate that a letter is being sent to Cambridge to request that the very objectionable content (Same Sex Family chapter) be removed from the O Level sociology book.
The minister was responding to a summons issued by senators Mohsin Aziz and Faisal Saleem Rehman. The senators had voiced concerns over the content, claiming that it was contradictory to Islamic and cultural teachings and values in Pakistani culture.
