The Sindh government has announced a significant reduction in the minimum marks required for admission to government colleges across the province. This decision is part of an effort to accommodate more students and address the growing demand for higher education.
Dr. Navaid Rab Siddiqui, Director General of Colleges Sindh, revealed that the cut-off marks for admission have been lowered by 20 to 50 marks, depending on the college and program. In response to the high volume of applications, the government has also increased the number of available seats in several colleges.
To address concerns raised by students and parents, Dr. Siddiqui announced the establishment of complaint centers in six colleges: DJ Science College, Government College for Men Nazimabad, Government Degree Boys College Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Government Girls College Sharea Liaquat, Sir Syed College, and Khursheed Government Girls College.
Dr. Siddiqui provided an update on the admission process, noting that 169,890 students applied for various programs, including Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, Commerce, Computer Science, and Home Economics, through the online portal. Of these applicants, 167,309 students were granted admission. Additionally, over 98,000 students were admitted to colleges out of the 100,147 applicants.
This move by the Sindh government aims to make higher education more accessible and address the concerns of students and parents regarding the competitive nature of college admissions in the province.
