Sharjeel Inam Memon, Minister of Information and Transport of Sindh, has announced the commencement of a training programme for female bus drivers, specifically for the state’s signature women-only pink buses.
The decision was revealed by the minister while presiding over the Sindh Mass Transit Authority’s (SMTA) 10th board meeting in Karachi. Following cabinet approval, the board contemplated granting subsidies for the People’s Bus Service.
It also decided to start training programmes for female drivers, specifically for women-only pink buses, to make female passengers feel secure.
The board also reviewed the Peoples Bus Service’s second phase, which includes the addition of 500 vehicles as well as the implementation of an environmentally friendly electric taxi service.
The SMTA board also discussed the Red Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project’s progress.
Transport Secretary Saleem Rajput, SMTA Managing Director Kamal Dayo, DIG Traffic Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, planning and development department representative Sikandar Shaikh, and Trans Karachi Chief Executive Officer Tufail Paliju all attended the meeting.
