After United Kingdom, Singapore has also confirmed their first case of the new COVID-19 variant presently found within United Kingdom. Apart from that 11 others who were in quarantine returned preliminary positive results for the new variant of COVID.
Each case that travelled from Europe was placed into the 140day quantine upon their arrival at dedicated facilities, moreover, their close contacts were also quanrantined earlier. Singapore health ministry explained that, “There is currently no evidence that the B117 strain is circulating in the community”. The officials of Singapore have been conducting viral gnomic sequencing for the COVID-19 cases which travelled from Europe recently. The strain however was found within 31 cases from Europe, who arrived in Singapore between the timestamps of November 17 and Decemver 17.
The first case of the new strain of the COVID-19 in Singapore travelled into the country on December 6, immediatly quarantined and was found positive on December 8. All of her close contacts were quarantined and found negetive at the end of their respective quarantine periods.
The case was ring-fenced to avoid further transmission said the health ministry, furthermore, the confirmatory results for the other 11 cases are still pending. Singapore has stopped anymore traveling from the UK to avoid further contact with the new strain of the virus.
