A devastating incident occurred in Dera Ismail Khan, where a blast targeting a police van claimed the lives of at least six people and left 20 others injured, as announced by Caretaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Firdous Jamal Shah on Friday.
Reports from law enforcement officials indicated that in addition to the explosion, gunshots were heard in the vicinity. The blast occurred in Tank Adda, near a police van, resulting in injuries to 22 individuals who were subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital. Some of the wounded are currently in critical condition.
Minister Firdous Jamal Shah also disclosed that among the 22 victims, two were police officers, expressing his deep sorrow over the tragic event. He reassured the public that those responsible for the explosion and acts of terrorism would be brought to justice.
This unfortunate incident is part of a concerning trend of violence in the region. Just last month, two separate explosions rocked the regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan on the day of Eid Miladun Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
In KP’s Hangu, a blast during a Friday sermon resulted in the loss of five lives and injuries to 12 people. Hangu District Police Officer Nisar Ahmed revealed that two suicide bombers were behind the attack: one targeted the gate of a police station, while the other detonated himself inside a mosque. In addition, two policemen were wounded during the firing exchange, as per law enforcement officials.
On the same day, a suicide blast occurred in Balochistan’s Mastung district, claiming the lives of at least 35 individuals, including a police officer, and injuring over 45 more.
For the past year, Pakistan has been plagued by a surge in terror attacks, with Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being particularly targeted by militants seeking to disrupt peace and security. Despite these challenges, the security forces in Pakistan remain committed to conducting operations against terrorists to eliminate terrorism and honor the sacrifices of their soldiers.
A report from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) has highlighted a significant increase in militant attacks across the country in August, with 99 reported terror incidents. This marked the highest number of incidents in any single month since November 2014 and has resulted in 112 fatalities and 87 injuries, primarily affecting security forces personnel and civilians.
