Skardu was designated as an international airport upon the arrival of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) first international aircraft.
On the 76th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence, PIA’s first international flight, flight 234, landed in Skardu. The travellers were greeted with the distinctive traditional Gilgit-Baltistan caps and considerate presents.
The airport authorities paid a vibrant tribute to the momentous moment by saluting the aeroplane with a water cannon upon its arrival.
In honour of Pakistan’s Independence Day, the flight’s captain ceremoniously opened the cockpit window and unfurled the national flag. This gesture embodied the spirit of solidarity and pride that characterises the country on this historic day.
