In a historic moment for Pakistan’s squash legacy, former world champion Jansher Khan has been inducted into the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Hall of Fame. Khan, known for his extraordinary career and unparalleled achievements, was honoured alongside Malaysian squash icon Nicol David at a special ceremony held at the Hong Kong Football Club on Sunday, December 1, 2024.
Jansher Khan and Nicol David are the third and fourth inductees to be recognized by the PSA Hall of Fame, which was established earlier this year to celebrate the greatest figures in the sport’s history. Notably, the Hall of Fame has only two male inductees—both from Pakistan: Jansher Khan and his legendary predecessor, Jahangir Khan.
Khan’s illustrious career includes eight World Open titles and six British Open titles. With 118 finals appearances and a total of 99 career titles, he holds the remarkable record of being ranked world number one for an incredible 97 months. His dominance in squash is unparalleled, and his achievements continue to inspire generations of players worldwide.
Speaking at the ceremony, Khan expressed his happiness at receiving the prestigious honour, particularly since Hong Kong had been a key part of his career, where he won eight Hong Kong Open titles. “Hong Kong is really my second home. I spent so many years here and I’m so happy to return and see my old friends. It’s truly an honour to receive this award here,” he said.
PSA Chief Executive Alex Gough praised both Khan and Nicol David for their lasting influence on the sport. “Nicol and Jansher are two of the most iconic figures in squash history, and their records have left a permanent mark on the sport,” he said. “Jansher’s records in men’s squash are nothing short of legendary, and we’re proud to celebrate his incredible legacy tonight.”
Men’s World No.1 Ali Farag also paid tribute to Jansher, describing him as “the greatest squash player of all time.” “Being compared to you is one of the greatest honours of my career,” Farag said. “Tonight, we celebrate not only your victories but the incredible legacy you’ve left in the world of squash.”
Jansher Khan’s induction into the PSA Hall of Fame further cements his status as a pioneer of squash and a true sports legend, whose contributions to the game will never be forgotten.
