In a major boost for Pakistan’s agriculture and energy sectors, Tarbela Dam has reached its maximum capacity, with water levels at 1,550 feet. This marks the second consecutive year the dam has been fully filled, storing over 5.8 million acre-feet (MAF) of water.
The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) confirmed that the dam is now at full capacity, leaving no room for additional water storage. Consequently, spillway gates have been opened to manage the overflow.
This achievement is seen as a significant success, particularly for the agriculture sector, as the stored water will be used for irrigation purposes across the country. This will ensure that agricultural activities continue without disruption in the upcoming seasons. An official announcement from WAPDA regarding the dam’s status is expected later today.
