“The Legend of Maula Jatt,” starring Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, has been re-released in four countries where it became the highest-grossing film of all time. Directed by Bilal Lashari, the movie will be shown across 15 locations in the UK, seven locations in the US, and two locations in the UAE from April 21, during the Eid holiday frame, six months after its theatrical debut.
The overseas distributor of the film, Moviegoers Entertainment’s founder, Pranab Kapadia, expressed delight in witnessing the history in the making, as no Pakistani film had ever been re-released within six months of its original release before. The film has been setting box office records thanks to the love of audiences across the globe and the support of exhibition partners.
The movie was released on October 13 and has grossed $13.8 million worldwide on 500 screens, making it the highest-grossing Pakistan-made and Punjabi-language film and the top South Asian film in the UK between 2018 and 2022. It grossed over five times more than Pakistan’s previous box office champion, “Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2”.
“The Legend of Maula Jatt” is a reboot of the 1979 cult classic “Maula Jatt” and focuses on the legendary rivalry between Maula Jatt (Fawad Khan), the local hero, and Noori Natt (Hamza Ali Abbasi), the leader of a brutal gang. Mahira Khan plays Mukkho, a fiery village woman who is Maula Jatt’s romantic interest.
