Pakistan’s highest-grossing film, The Legend of Maula Jatt, is set for its Indian debut this October, as announced on the film’s official Instagram page. Directed by Bilal Lashari, the 2022 blockbuster, a remake of the 1979 cult classic Maula Jatt, has already made waves across the globe.
Lashari and actress Mahira Khan shared the exciting news on social media, with Lashari stating, “Releasing in India, Punjab on Wednesday, October 2nd! Two years in, and still house full on weekends in Pakistan! Now, I can’t wait for our Punjabi audience in India to experience the magic of this labor of love.”
The film, starring Fawad Khan as Maula Jatt and Hamza Ali Abbasi as Noori Natt, is a retelling of the epic rivalry between the two characters. Mahira Khan plays Mukkho, the bold love interest of Maula Jatt.
This release is especially significant, marking the first Pakistani film to hit Indian cinemas following a ban on Pakistani artists after the 2016 Uri attack. In 2023, the Supreme Court of India dismissed a plea seeking a complete ban on Pakistani talent, opening the door for The Legend of Maula Jatt to make history in India.
