With the worst pandemic of history being in town, had it not been for welfare and charity organizations, many wouldn’t have made it today. First world countries in one way or another, made it possible for themselves to thrive in all circumstances put forward. However, when it comes to being a third world country, handling a pandemic is not easy a task. Talking about Pakistan, welfare is the only thing that has kept the country afloat throughout. With various organizations stepping in during the tough times, they stretched to beyond their own expectations and helped their fellow countrymen in need. Syed Zafar Abbas of JDC has worked day and night and set up a Coronavirus Hospital in Karachi that will work Free of Cost.
Amongst the fear of people dying of hunger, emerged a son of Karachi who alone won the hearts of everyone. Syed Zafar Abbas – General Secretary of JDC. An NGO that has turned into a household name in Pakistan today and the reason is evident. With selfless and uncountable hours of service and resources, all devoted to helping others. The aim of the organization as said on its official website is a beautiful Ayah of the Quran, ‘Those who spend in charity will be richly awarded.’ (57:10). This is what has indeed made it a source of inspiration for each and every Pakistani, let alone the residents of Karachi.
With the presence of the legendary Abdul Sattar Edhi, all of Karachi looked up to him for help. With JDC, there is now a new face to welfare. From the day the lockdown had been imposed, JDC knew it had a huge role to play. From delivering food supplies at doorsteps to arranging massive quantities during Ramadan, it managed to stay at the forefront no matter what. Covering all nook and corners of the city, it managed to distribute resources with all absolute transparency. With the PK-8303 flight crashing near Malir Karachi, JDC along with Faisal Edhi and his team were the first to reach on spot. Owing to the interest of the public as his own, Zafar Abbas is one popular figure amongst youngsters.
Apart from that, JDC has now set up Pakistan’s first free private COVID-19 hospital. Coronavirus testing, isolation wards alongside other essentials like ventilators for patients of extreme need are all present therein. This initiate depicts as to how for not even a single day, has JDC bowed down to the deadly disease and its consequences. Instead, it has been over performing in the toughest of times of human history. The critical thinking and heroic execution of Zafar Abbas and the team have indeed made a household name for themselves in Pakistan.
The ambulance service, flood relief work, rashan project education project, free medical clinic, marriage support, JDC orphanage house and JDC old age home, there is so much to the name of Zafar Abbas alone. When asked of his efforts, he provides a reply much suited to his well-distinguished name, ‘Humanity is in my blood.’ As a result of all of this, The International Human Rights Commission assured its complete support to the JDC in all its upcoming ventures revolving around welfare development in Pakistan.
This is who you call an unsung hero. This is who you may rightfully call the Son of Karachi. This is Syed Zafar Abbas.
