ISLAMABAD: The parties in the coalition government were “afraid” that I would appoint Lt Gen Faiz Hameed as the next army chief, PTI Chairman Imran Khan claimed Wednesday.
The PTI chairman, while hitting out at the government during a seminar on “Regime Change Conspiracy and Pakistan’s Destabilization”, said: “They were afraid that I would appoint Lt Gen Faiz. They feared that if that would have happened then it would shatter their future.”
In an interview, the former prime minister said that the current rulers are “afraid of the army and the Inter-Services Intelligence” because they know that their “corruption” will be uncovered eventually.
“Imran Khan does not want to save his corruption, he does not want to appoint his army chief,” said the PTI leader.
Khan stated that the current rulers are claiming that he wanted to appoint an army chief of his own choosing. He went on to say that he has never made a decision that was not based on merit.
The PTI chairman then criticized the current rulers for allegedly harming the institutions and only appointing people who are loyal to them.
