With supplies for the victims of the catastrophic floods that have buried one-third of South Asia, Turkiye’s second “Kindness Train” departed for Pakistan.
394 tons of supplies for disaster aid are being sent by the train, which departed Ankara on Thursday. The state-run Disaster and Emergency Management Authority is managing this shipment.
Yunus Sezer, the president of AFAD, and Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi, the ambassador of Pakistan to Ankara, were present at the farewell ceremony.
According to Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority, more than a million homes have been demolished or damaged since mid-June, and almost 1,200 people have died.
Entire villages have been destroyed by torrential rain and catastrophic floods.
According to state meteorologists, the South Asian country, which is among the 10 nations in the world most vulnerable to climate change, has received over 200% more rain this year than average monsoon showers.
