At least two police officers were killed and two others were injured when militants opened fire at a checkpoint in Peshawar on Thursday.
According to reports, the officers were setting up a checkpoint in the Regi Model Town region of the provincial capital when unidentified armed persons opened fire on them, critically injuring four of them.
The injured officers were sent to Khyber Teaching Hospital, where two of them died from their injuries. The other two are being treated.
The dead officers were identified as Head Constable Wajid and driver Farman, while the injured were identified as Feroze and Sayarz, according to Khyber Teaching Hospital Spokesperson Sajjad Khan.
In May of this year, at least two police officers were killed in an exchange of fire with suspected terrorists near Khyber police lines.
The K-P Police Department reported at the time that two other officers were injured in the incident.
A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and a line cop were among those killed.
