The federal government is in talks with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to introduce direct flights to Skardu, according to Aun Chaudhry, Adviser to the Prime Minister (PM) on Tourism and Sports.
The advisor made the remarks while attending the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2023 in Dubai; he believes that direct flights between the UAE and Skardu will boost tourism in the northern territories.
According to Chaudhry, the Prime Minister has directed him to take critical efforts, in partnership with the corporate sector, to boost tourism in the country.
Because Pakistan has the potential to grow its tourism industry, he believes the government should make it easier for visitors to visit places like Skardu.
The Prime Minister’s (PM) Tourism and Sports Adviser is in Dubai with a 25-member delegation because the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has set up a pavilion at ATM 2023 in collaboration with other organizations such as the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Pearl Continental Hotels, Hashoo Group, and others.
Aun Chaudhry also praised the Pakistan Embassy in the UAE and TDAP for their assistance to Pakistani exhibitors during the event.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UAE, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, described Pakistan’s return to the ATM as a big step forward that will encourage tourism in the nation and improve its soft image globally.
As far as flights between UAE and Skardu are concerned, the development would attract people from the emirate to spend vacations in Pakistan. At present, the residents of UAE generally proceed to Schengen countries to spend their vacations due to pleasant weather, ease of visa, and flight accessibility.
Skardu can present itself as another option to the Emiratis as it offers scenic spots like Deosai National Park, Upper Kachura Lake, Manthokha waterfall, Satpara Lake, Sheosar Lake, Katpana desert besides other attractions. Another advantage that can benefit foreigners is the fact that these spots are economical in terms of stay and food.
