Dubai: The UAE Space Agency today announced a new Dh3 billion national investment and development fund for the space sector, The National Space Fund.
The Fund will support ground breaking new programmes launched to support international and Emirati companies co-operating in leading edge space sector engineering, sciences and research applications.
The Fund’s first project to be launched to space will be a constellation of advanced remote sensing satellites using radar technologies to provide unparalleled imaging capabilities.
Tweeting on the occasion, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said: “The UAE today launched Sirb project, the first of its kind to develop a constellation of advanced remote sensing satellites using radar technologies in all weather conditions and can operate around the clock with an accuracy of one metre,”.
“The new project aims to develop the UAE’s competitive edge in the space sector and preserve the environment from climate change,” Sheikh Mohammed added.

The Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) (Urdu: خلائی و بالائے فضائی تحقیقاتی مأموریہ) is the executive and national space agency of Pakistan. It is headquartered at the capital city of Islamabad in the northern part of Pakistan with additional facilities at the University of Punjab in Lahore.
Realizing the importance of Space Science and Technology applications for sustainable national development, the Government of Pakistan established Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission. Being the National Space Agency of Pakistan, SUPARCO is mandated to conduct research and development work in the field of space science, technology and its applications for peaceful purposes and socio economic uplift of country. Its headquarter is located at Islamabad and technical facilities are spread over Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Quetta, Peshawar and Gilgit.
It has state-of-the-art research, development and manufacturing facilities of satellite manufacturing, space sciences, technology and applications. It undertakes a diverse range of research & development activities in the field of space science, technology and its applications as well as satellite design and development programmes. SUPARCO has a strong element of international cooperation and strongly believes in peaceful uses of space science & technology for the well-being of humanity.
