Dr. Rubaba Khan Buledi, the Parliamentary Secretary for Science and IT, Law, and Parliamentary Affairs in Balochistan has applauded UNICEF’s initiative to build temporary tent hospitals in the flood-affected regions of Balochistan.
She said this while speaking with the head of UNICEF Balochistan’s Child Protection Department, Dr. Muhammad Humayun Amiri, and nutritionist Muhammad Imran Jatoi. “The setting up of makeshift hospitals in the calamity-ravaged areas of the province will help minimize the issues faced by the flood-hit masses to a great extent,” she said.
During the conference, the topic of international organizations’ ongoing flood relief and rehabilitation efforts as well as the steps taken to rebuild educational institutions damaged or destroyed by floods and find other sources of education were discussed.
“Temporary learning centers have been constructed for the continuation of education of the children in flood-ravaged areas to assist them to continue with their studies,” the UNICEF representatives added.
In the disaster-stricken districts, “UNICEF has also chosen to create temporary hospitals for the flood victims, including pregnant and breast-feeding women,” he insisted.
Additionally, they requested government support for continuing relief and reconstruction efforts in the impacted areas.
She expressed her pleasure with the relief efforts in the afflicted areas as well as the steps made in the fields of health and education, and she gave them the assurance of her full support.
She asserted that it is essential for the government to act as a liaison with other humanitarian groups on issues of public concern, such as nutrition, education, and health in flood-affected communities.
She stated that close collaboration between the government and non-governmental groups will speed up relief and rehabilitation efforts and make the most of the resources available for the victims’ wellbeing.
Terming the decision of makeshift hospitals a commendable measure she hoped that this move will resolve health-related issues in the areas facing the brunt of the flood.
She promised the team of the province government’s assistance for UNICEF and all other foreign organizations operating in flood-affected regions.
