U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has urged an immediate six-week ceasefire in Gaza, calling on Hamas to agree and simultaneously pressing Israel to enhance aid deliveries to the region. Speaking in Selma, Alabama, Harris underscored the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, characterizing it as a “catastrophe” and insisting on prompt intervention.
Highlighting the urgent need for a ceasefire, Harris stated, “Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate ceasefire. There is a deal on the table, and as we have emphasized, Hamas needs to agree to that deal. Let’s secure a ceasefire.”
She brought attention to the dire conditions in Gaza, emphasizing the looming threat of starvation, and urged the Israeli government to significantly amplify the flow of aid. Harris asserted, “The conditions are inhumane, and our shared humanity compels us to take action. The Israeli government must intensify efforts to ensure the efficient delivery of aid, leaving no room for excuses.”
