Senator Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo, a seasoned politician and veteran Baloch nationalist leader, died at the age of 62. As said by National Party Central Secretary General Jan Muhammad Buledi, he passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Karachi. After being diagnosed with lung cancer the year last, he was now admitted in the hospital after a deterioration in his health.
Condolences by Prominent Figures
Having remained chief of the National Party, he now was acting as a partisan of it. Sorrow was expressed on part of politicians, journalists and intellectuals. Shahbaz Sharif, the Leader of Opposition in National Assembly and PML-N president, said that he was ‘shocked and saddened’ by the news. He also added that being from Balochistan, Bizenjo had represented the voice of his province and always stood for rule-based politics. Balochistan National Party – Mengal (BNP-M) president Sardar Akhtar Mengal too offered his condolences in a tweet.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari termed it as a great loss for the country. He said that Bizenjo was one strong voice against injustices in Balochistan, who had always remained in the forefront in the struggle forefront in the struggle for supremacy of the Constitution and strengthening of democracy. PPP Leader Sherry Rehman added that she was shocked and bereaved to hear of his passing. She said that he was an advocate for the vulnerable and his passing marked as the end of an era.
The spokesperson for the Balochistan government, Liaquat Shahwani remembered Bizenjo as a strong democrat and a kind leader with whom he had shared political association for two decades. The Education Minister for Sindh, Saeed Ghani said that he had learned a lot from Bizenjo, during their time together in the Senate. He added that Pakistan had now lost a seasoned political leader.

Bizenjo was a revered figure in the face of Pakistani politics and was always known for his unwavering democratic steps. He was a voice for the people of Balochistan and served the best interests of his people. He had accused several governments for having made ‘huge blunders’ to the Balochis which to him, was unacceptable. National Party under his leadership, had also called for effective powers for other provinces.
