Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa fined a petitioner’s counsel Rs2,000 on Tuesday for failing to present necessary documents in an Income Tax case, noting that “we are old-fashioned judges who will thoroughly examine the entire set of documents.”
The case was presided over by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, who made it clear that the court anticipated perfect compliance with the documentation requirements.

The petitioner’s counsel was sanctioned for failing to produce the required documentation.
Chief Justice Isa questioned the counsel, asking if he had been accompanied by a revenue officer to guarantee adequate documentation.
He stressed that the Income Tax matter could only be heard if an official from the relevant department was present to help with the procedure.
“The court does not operate in isolation, and it is imperative that we receive the necessary support to carry out our proceedings effectively,” said Chief Justice Isa.
The Chief Justice went on to say that the court frequently encounters difficulties due to a lack of cooperation and that individuals then allege that the Supreme Court has imposed a stay on cases worth crores of rupees.
The court issued a notice to the Inland Revenue Department in response to the incident.
As a result, the lawyer informed the court, “We will try to comply.”
“You should do your best, but if you don’t comply, you will face the consequences.” “Do not act in a way that suggests you have exemptions,” Chief Justice Isa said sharply.
When the lawyer demanded a Rs1,000 fine, Chief Justice Isa showed dissatisfaction, saying, “This level of noncompliance was not expected from a senior lawyer like you.”
As a result, the court imposed a Rs2,000 fine to be donated in a charitable fund of the lawyer’s choice.
The lawyer was also told to produce the donation receipt to the court as proof of payment.
