Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced a new feature aimed at enhancing the video-calling experience for its users. According to WaBetaInfo, this update includes augmented reality (AR) call effects and filters.
With this feature, users can personalize their interactions using new visual tools. WhatsApp has refined this functionality by allowing the integration of effects directly into the camera interface. A new filter button has been added, enabling users to apply filters with a single tap, thereby enhancing their pictures and videos.
Previously limited to video calls, these effects are now accessible through the camera. “With this new button, users can quickly toggle through various filters for real-time adjustments before capturing images and videos,” stated WaBetaInfo.
Among the available filters is a skin-smoothing option, which helps users enhance their complexion by minimizing blemishes and uneven skin tones. Additionally, WhatsApp has incorporated a background-changing feature, previously exclusive to video calls, allowing users to replace their real-world backgrounds with virtual scenes or blur them entirely for a more professional appearance. The camera also offers lighting adjustments, including a low-light mode that brightens dark environments, improving clarity in challenging conditions.
This feature is currently available to beta testers who install the latest updates of WhatsApp beta for Android, with a wider rollout expected in the coming weeks.
