Head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Sub-Office, Dr. Babar Alam on Thursday said that the organization was taking the responsibility of rehabilitation and activation of 50 hospitals in the flood-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
During a discussion in his office, he was speaking with Dr. Abid Jameel, Advisor to KP Caretaker Chief Minister on Health.
The representatives from the WHO and the Health Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reached an agreement during the discussion regarding the continuation of technical support, the building of the Health Department’s capacity, the improvement of health facilities in remote locations, and the rehabilitation of hospitals in flood-affected areas.
On this occasion, the advisor asked the WHO to continue working with them to upgrade the medical facilities in remote areas. He officially expressed his gratitude to the global health organization for helping the province during various natural disasters, such as the flood and the Corona pandemic.
The WHO representative stated that in addition to reconstruction, the organization would also provide furniture and medical equipment to these hospitals as part of its Rs. 314 million investment in the rehabilitation of health centres in flood-affected areas.
The advisor also asked the WHO representatives for examples of operating rooms, intensive care units (ICUs), and hospital buildings. Additionally, he asked for technological support in setting up hospital drainage and waste management systems.
