The suggestion by the World Bank to raise taxes on the salaried class in order to increase income has angered professionals across the nation who are already suffering from rising inflation.
The main objective, according to recommendations in the World Bank’s Pakistan Development Outlook, is to increase the tax base by bringing previously untaxed groups into the tax net and streamlining government spending.
These suggestions, if adopted, could add to the financial pressures already placed on the group of people with high incomes who already pay taxes on their gross income.
However, because of the recent spike in inflation, the salaried class is under a great deal of financial pressure.
“This proposal is undoubtedly problematic. I firmly believe that even individuals earning over Rs50,000 should receive tax relief, considering the current circumstances,” All Private Schools Association (APSA) Chairman Tariq Shah said.
