World Environment Day is being observed today (Monday), aiming to draw attention to the severe consequences of plastic pollution on nature and human health.
The theme for this year’s World Environment Day is focused on finding solutions to combat plastic pollution, with the campaign slogan #BeatPlasticPollution.
Annually, over 430 million tonnes of plastic are produced worldwide, with half of it designed for single-use purposes.
To raise awareness about plastic pollution, various entities including civil society, government departments such as the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency, non-governmental organizations, and others will organize awareness walks, seminars, and symposiums to educate the public about the issue.
