On the occasion of Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day, Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Management Committee, conducted the flag-hoisting ceremony at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headquarters.
PCB COO Salman Naseer and several top executives accompanied Ashraf. Former cricketer Sarfaraz Nawaz and wicketkeeper-batsman Zulqarnain Haider were also in attendance.
Players from the Afghanistan ODI series were also present for the celebration.
During the ceremony, a 14 August-themed cake was also cut, followed by the planting of a tree.
As Pakistan celebrates its 76th Independence Day on August 14 (today), the national athletes also prayed for the country’s prosperity.
Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan, Hassan Ali, Umar Akmal, Shaheen Shah Afridi, squash player Noorena Shams, Pakistan’s international wrestling icon Inam Butt, and Olympian weightlifter Talha Talib all wished the country a happy Independence Day.
President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) President Asif Ali Zardari, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari all congratulated the country on its 77th Independence Day.
The day began with special prayers for the country’s prosperity and togetherness, an appropriate request considering the political and economic upheaval.
Furthermore, a 31-gun salute was fired in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes were fired in all provincial capitals as an homage to the country that has weathered numerous storms.
