Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari, Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), stated on Friday that he has given a summary to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requesting the appointment of Zaka Ashraf as the new PCB chairman.
Mazari, a politician from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in the current PDM-led government, has publicly stated his wish to install Zaka Ashraf as PCB chairman once more.
Mazari stated in a statement that Najam Sethi, the current head of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s management committee, has been appointed for a four-month period to conduct elections for PCB chairman.
“How can someone who heads the PCB committee become a candidate for PCB chief?” he wondered, adding that Zaka Ashraf would be the new cricket board chairman.
It is worth noting that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) are at odds over the appointment of the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
According to sources, the PPP wants to pick the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board because its minister controls the Inter-Provincial Coordination Division (IPC), and the PCB is tied to the ministry.
However, the PML-N wants to put Najam Sethi, the head of the PCB’s management committee, in the position, which has caused a schism between the two parties.
